What does it mean to you to be healthy? To GET healthy? Most people would say ‘eat right and exercise’, wouldn’t you agree? Being healthy is not just a physical manifestation of our actions. It’s a mindset, a lifestyle, a way of being. It takes the whole mind, body and spirit to create a healthy person. So, while eating nutritious and nourishing foods and moving our bodies is an essential component to our health, there’s a lot more to it than just that.

One of the most important things you can do for your health is manage your stress. I know, I know, we are all under a great deal of it. But there are many tools we can use to keep the cortisol levels down, at least a little bit. There are breathing exercises, yoga, meditation and laughter, to name a few.

Staying hydrated and making sure our water intake is optimal is important for our well being and keeping blood sugar balanced. We should be drinking between 64 oz and .67 x your body weight daily. Do the math. Are you getting enough water every day?

Spending time with loved ones, laughing with friends and making TIME for ourselves is vital. Ask yourself these questions…How are your relationships? Are they fulfilling? How is your relationship with yourself? What is the point of living your life if you are not enjoying it?

Let’s get outside more. It’s never enough! We need that Vitamin S (sunshine) and Vitamin N (nature). Don’t you just feel happy when you are connecting with your natural environment? Take in all the sights and sounds and feels.

Do you hear yourself saying you are tired a lot? What time do you go to bed? Are you getting at least 7-8 hours a night? Sleep (or lack thereof) is an often overlooked reason for our fatigue. Without proper sleep, we are lowering our resistance and putting ourselves in a vulnerable place to get sick. Being fully rested benefits us in so many ways.

These are just a few of the many ways we can maintain our healthy lifestyle. There are so many other things we can do to keep our bodies nourished and we will talk about all of them in time. Let’s be kind to ourselves. We only have one body and one life, so let’s treat them with the love and respect they deserve.
